Amethyst

The origins of amethyst comes from Greek legends. The god of wine, Bacchus, was insulted one day by a mere mortal. He swore the next mortal that crossed his path would be attacked by his fierce tigers. Along came a beautiful maiden name Amethyst. Goddess Diana turned Amethyst into a beautiful statue of quartz to save her from the tigers. Remorseful Bacchus wept tears of wine over the stone maiden, creating a lively purple stone.

Amethyst is a soothing stone and brings calmness in times of grief. It is associated with spiritual awareness, meditation psychic abilities, inner peace, healing and positive transformation. It dispels anguish, worry and anger.  Bishops wear it as a ring and Buddhists to pray. Amethyst's harmonises ones love life. St Valentine was known to always wear an amethyst.  Amethyst protects you from negative forces and helps fight against addictions such as smoking, alcohol and drugs. The literal translation is "alcohol repellant". When placed under a pillow it cures insomnia, prevents nightmares and encourages vivid dreams filled with information. It heals migraines. Amethyst suits sportspeople, those in business, students and extroverts.
