Hope everyone had a lovely Easter and enjoyed the time off with family and friends.
Just prior to the Easter break I was sitting down having coffee with friends and the topic of style always pops up, whether it is fashion and/or home wares. My friends and I all agree that people are just born with it and others pay people for it. It's what makes the world go round! These days we see so many trends so very quickly it makes our heads spin that we don't know where to look. I say look within yourself. I don't believe there are any hard and fast rules, but one that I always stick by is "BE TRUE TO YOURSELF". If you do this then you will be comfortable and happy even when you are bucking the trend.
I believe even people born with style need guidance at times as much as those without it. Believing I had loads of style as a quirky individual I thought I didn't need any guidance, until I happened upon this book several years ago. It is "The Little Black Book of Style" by Nina Garcia. To say I love this book is an understatement. It is a fabulous little book that guides you to finding your own individual style, loving it, owning it and being confident with it.
Not only do I love the illustrations in it by Ruben Toledo, but also the many enlightening one liner insights into how Nina thinks and how really we should too. She does not under any circumstance encourage us to splurge all our money on designer clothing but quite the opposite, instead we must simplify our wardrobes.
My favourite style tip which was the eye opener or me in the book is to "choose whether you want 20 ordinary tops or 5 fabulous ones" I know which I choose. When shopping I always think of this comment and apply it to all aspects of my wardrobe. (Remember the YSL Tribtoo 80 small leopard print Pumps - 1 fabulous pair of shoes as opposed to 5 ordinary pairs)
