Hope everyone had a great weekend. It was the last long weekend for us Queenslanders. Weather was not as predicted with lots of rain but it was cold with some showers but I don't think enough to dampen our spirits. I headed off to Bangalow on Saturday. It was cold and perfect weather for a drive to the Northern Rivers region of NSW. The turnoff is just 2 kilometers after the Byron Bay turnoff. It is a 40 minute drive from the Gold Coast. So if you spend a lot of time on the Gold Coast I definitely suggest a drive. I was expecting more Leura in the Blue Mountains or Berry in NSW, of coming home with lots of jams and relishes from local produce. However there was none of that. It had a modern atmosphere to it with the cafes and boutiques, yet was still a very warm and welcoming town where the people where genuinely happy to help.
We kicked our visit off with coffees and homemade apple pies to warm ourselves up from the award winning Utopia cafe.
And then we started our shopping at the top of the street with Millar and Moore. Now Millar and Moore had a fire destroy everything 9 months ago. The township got together to raise enough funds for the staff until they could start work again. And it is such a fabulous shop that I can see why you would want to help reopen this boutique.
Up the stairs to the delightful surprise of treasures. Their philosophy is that "We love finding and buying beautiful things. Things that makes us smile, that we want to share and things that make us feel good."
Candles and books
Teacups, gifts and undiscovered designers notably from France and New Zealand.
And this gorgeous little handmade Ballerina from Paris. With 30% off the entire store I couldn't help not take away a couple of souvenirs.
Next on the street was Yes Pigs CAN Fly. A great boutique selling fashion and accessories and outside these fantastic garden ornaments. I am getting myself one on my return. They do start at $300 and are definately worth it. If you could see the detail in them you would agree.
You can see why this is a much talked about boutique. With the gorgeous Hannah Brauer and her mother designing and making much of the fashion in the shop. It stocks a collection of fashion and accessories, gifts, cards, furniture and collectables for your house and lifestyle.
